About Elunio
Elunio helps you find the nearest EV charging station – worldwide, free, and without registration. Unlike many maps, Elunio shows the real driving distance. Route planning factors in weather, elevation, driving style, and your vehicle (including plug-in hybrids), suggesting real charging stops with one-tap navigation via Google Maps or Waze when needed. Filter by charging speed, connector type (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO, Tesla) and price, see the community status (free/occupied/broken) and real prices paid, and find cafes or restaurants nearby for your charging break – all without range anxiety. You can also plan your route for a later departure, including wind and precipitation forecasts along the way – and if a charging stop falls at night or bad weather is forecast along the way, Elunio suggests hotels within comfortable walking distance, prioritizing those with a charger right at the property.

Is Elunio really free?
Yes, Elunio is completely free to use. There are no hidden costs and no subscription for the core features. Small, unobtrusive ads help fund free operation across the app and website - never during an active route.
Do I need an account to find charging stations?
No, you can use the app immediately without registration. If you want to see your favorites across multiple devices, you can optionally do so with a sync code – no traditional user account with email and password needed.
How up to date is the charging station data?
The basic station data (location, connector type, charging power) comes from Open Charge Map, an open, worldwide database. Elunio also shows a community occupancy status: other users can voluntarily report whether a station is currently free or occupied. These reports expire after a certain time so the display doesn't become outdated.
How does Elunio calculate the distance to a charging station?
Elunio shows the real driving distance by car. If the real distance can't be calculated for a station in rare cases, Elunio deliberately shows no number instead of providing an inaccurate estimate.
What does "estimated price" mean?
Not every charging station operator provides an exact price. In this case, Elunio shows an approximate price range, clearly marked as an estimate. The actual price may vary – we recommend checking the price directly at the charger.
Does Elunio work worldwide?
Yes, Elunio works worldwide and is available in multiple languages. Whether you're at home or traveling abroad, you'll find charging stations nearby.
What criteria can I use to filter charging stations?
You can filter by charging speed (slow, normal, fast, ultra-fast), connector type (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO, Tesla), and price. You can also show only free stations or stations near a highway.
Does route planning take my vehicle into account?
Yes. Once you select your vehicle, Elunio uses its battery capacity for range calculations and remembers your choice for future visits. For plug-in hybrids, Elunio deliberately does not suggest charging stops, since the combustion engine takes over automatically at low battery.
Does weather factor into route planning too?
Yes. Besides temperature (heating/AC), Elunio also factors in wind speed and precipitation along the route - all three feed directly into the consumption calculation and therefore into charging stop planning, not just as an FYI.
Can I plan my route for a later departure?
Yes. In the Route tab, under "Departure" you can choose between "Now" and "Later" and set a date and time. Arrival times, weather forecasts, and overnight hotel suggestions are then based on your chosen departure time instead of the current time.
When does Elunio suggest a hotel at a charging stop?
Elunio suggests a hotel when a charging stop is reached at night or bad weather (rain, snow, thunderstorms) is forecast along the way – within a comfortable walking distance of the stop, including a link to the website or booking. Hotels with a charger right at the property are shown first. The suggestion is skipped shortly before your actual destination, since a hotel no longer makes sense for the last short stretch.
