What Elunio can do in detail – feature by feature
All features at a glance – from finding the right charger to planning your charging break. Tap a feature to learn more.
Elunio calculates consumption per route: model-specific values for around 200 electric variants, elevation profile, temperature, precipitation (Open-Meteo), and your driving style Eco, Comfort or Sport. If your car is not listed, the app falls back to a fixed default value. The result: charging stops exactly where you really need them.
From the trips you actually drive, Elunio derives a personal correction factor and applies it to future plans. Over time the forecast moves closer to your car, your driving style and your usual routes – without you maintaining formulas or profiles.
Enter your current battery level before departure. Elunio plans the first stop from that value and calculates the later legs with a recharge range of roughly 80 %, instead of assuming a full battery you do not actually have.
For each stop, Elunio scores candidates by estimated cost and charging time for your vehicle and shows up to two alternative stations. Per stop you see charging power, estimated charging duration (10 → 80 %), cost and driving time from the start. Stations recently reported broken by users are no longer planned automatically.
When you tap the numbered marker of a charging stop on the map, the popup now shows charging power in kW and the estimated charging time next to name and address. One more tap opens the full station detail with price, connectors and surroundings.
The heart of Elunio: drivers report what they actually paid. The price tab shows community prices and – where reported – the blocking fee per minute. For a stop in route planning, the app uses an existing community price for its cost estimate. Note: coverage is densest in Baden-Württemberg and the DACH region; elsewhere there are fewer reports.
For selected operators (EnBW, Ionity, Aral pulse, Shell Recharge, Fastned), Elunio shows a researched card recommendation with price per kWh and monthly fee – but only if it is actually cheaper than the ad-hoc price. With “I have this card” you store your cards locally in your browser, no account needed.
In the filter panel, the new switch hides every station for which none of your marked cards is recommended. If you have not marked a card yet, the app briefly explains where to do it and keeps showing all stations. The filter is free. It currently covers only the operators listed above.
Where OpenStreetMap contains information on credit, debit and contactless card payment, Elunio shows it in the price tab. Only positive entries are shown on purpose – a missing entry does not mean the payment method is unavailable.
The ChargeIQ score bundles a station's properties into a rating from 0 to 100 and shows it green from 75. With Elunio Pro you can filter for “Top rated (ChargeIQ ≥ 75)” and see only the strongest candidates.
In the advanced route settings you can optionally enter extra consumption in percent, for example for a trailer – planning takes it into account. The range tool also draws a range circle on the map. The circle is a straight-line upper limit, not a drive-time isochrone.
Elunio shows cafés, restaurants, hotels and other places within walking distance and matches them against the estimated charging time: what fits into your charging window and what does not? A filter for wheelchair-accessible access is included.
Routes can be shared via link or QR code. You hand navigation over to Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze – Elunio plans, your navigation app guides. Recently loaded stations and favorites stay available even without a network.
Elunio runs instantly in your browser. You use the map, route planning and community prices without registering; My Cards and settings are stored locally on your device. What Pro adds is shown in the Free vs. Pro comparison inside the app.
All statements describe the current app. Prices and tariffs change often; community reports are snapshots, not guarantees.
About Elunio
Elunio helps you find the right charging station for your electric car – no sign-up needed. Route planning factors in weather, elevation, driving style and your vehicle (including plug-in hybrids) and suggests charging stops with navigation via Google Maps or Waze when needed. Filter by charging speed, connector type (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO, Tesla) and price, see the community status (free/occupied/broken) and prices drivers actually paid, and find cafés or restaurants nearby for your charging break.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Elunio really free?
Yes, Elunio is completely free to use. There are no hidden costs and no subscription for the core features. Small, unobtrusive ads help fund free operation across the app and website - never during an active route.
Do I need an account to find charging stations?
No, you can use the app immediately without registration. If you want to see your favorites across multiple devices, you can optionally do so with a sync code – no traditional user account with email and password needed.
How up to date is the charging station data?
The basic station data (location, connector type, charging power) comes from Open Charge Map, an open, worldwide database. Elunio also shows a community occupancy status: other users can voluntarily report whether a station is currently free or occupied. These reports expire after a certain time so the display doesn't become outdated.
How does Elunio calculate the distance to a charging station?
Elunio shows the real driving distance by car. If the real distance can't be calculated for a station in rare cases, Elunio deliberately shows no number instead of providing an inaccurate estimate.
What does "estimated price" mean?
Not every charging station operator provides an exact price. In this case, Elunio shows an approximate price range, clearly marked as an estimate. The actual price may vary – we recommend checking the price directly at the charger.
Which countries does Elunio cover?
Elunio shows charging stations in many countries across Europe and beyond and is available in 12 languages. How complete station data, prices and occupancy are depends on the region – the more drivers report prices and status locally, the more accurate the information becomes.
What criteria can I use to filter charging stations?
You can filter by charging speed (slow, normal, fast, ultra-fast), connector type (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO, Tesla), and price. You can also show only free stations or stations near a highway.
Does route planning take my vehicle into account?
Yes. Once you select your vehicle, Elunio uses its battery capacity for range calculations and remembers your choice for future visits. For plug-in hybrids, Elunio deliberately does not suggest charging stops, since the combustion engine takes over automatically at low battery.
Does weather factor into route planning too?
Yes. Besides temperature (heating/AC), Elunio also factors in wind speed and precipitation along the route - all three feed directly into the consumption calculation and therefore into charging stop planning, not just as an FYI.
Can I plan my route for a later departure?
Yes. In the Route tab, under "Departure" you can choose between "Now" and "Later" and set a date and time. Arrival times, weather forecasts, and overnight hotel suggestions are then based on your chosen departure time instead of the current time.
When does Elunio suggest a hotel at a charging stop?
Elunio suggests a hotel when a charging stop is reached at night or bad weather (rain, snow, thunderstorms) is forecast along the way – within a comfortable walking distance of the stop, including a link to the website or booking. Hotels with a charger right at the property are shown first. The suggestion is skipped shortly before your actual destination, since a hotel no longer makes sense for the last short stretch.

Über Elunio / About Elunio
In English: Elunio helps EV drivers find charging stations across Europe and compare charging costs by provider, connector type and power. Location data comes from open sources (Open Charge Map, OpenStreetMap-based data and, in Baden-Württemberg, MobiData BW); prices are reported by operators, tariff pages and the community and may differ from the price shown at the charger. Our guides cover charging, home wallboxes and EV costs in plain language.
